Who are the Irvings?

Andolina Foucault-Irving is the 51-year-old founder and editor-in-chief of the Vastille Review, an underground newspaper which she publishes. Her common-law husband, Jonathan Irving, works as an accountant by day, and assists in printing and distribution of the Review by night. Living with them is his brother-in-law, Pierre Irving, who along with his brother hail from the country of long-armed men to the south called Dubalia. His often-shirked responsibilities include maintaining the Foucault-Irving's printing press and tending to their unaging, 5-year-old infant Elizabeth Foucault-Irving.

As unlicensed newspaper proprietors, the Irving family publish under the pen name of Archimedes R. Samael. They use their wits and clever disguises to pry into the inner workings of the Robespierre government which has taken over their town.

Who is Lord Boudreaux Laurence Robespierre?

Boudreaux Robespierre used to be a mild-mannered, rather grounded member of the House of Nobles, until he found a certain reliquary, and got in touch with the Church about it. Ever since he was declared Lord of Chauvigny, he's been on a tear, amassing more and more power for him and his well-connected friends. He's dissolved Parliament, impeached the judiciary, fired the constables, and imposed martial law. The Gendarmerie, a military police unit, are now judge, jury, and executioner throughout Vastille, if not all of Chauvigny.

Of course, our fair Lord has time for far more than just usurping the rule of law. He also operates a finishing school, known simply as the Seminary, in which even the poorest young girls are brought in and turned into proper, obedient women.

Who is Samuel Claus?

Saint Samuel J. Claus is a local toymaker with a long and storied history throughout Chauvigny. As his name suggests, he is a religious figure, though his days of serving with the Church have long since gone. Instead, much of his life has been dedicated to charitable work, such as operating orphanages, caring for less-fortunate children, and so on. He also distributes toys to children during Rosemasse, a religious festival celebrating the posthumous reign of Rosalia's legendary king. He has lived in Vastille longer than anyone can remember, and may in fact just be immortal. The townsfolk don't seem to mind, and have even decided to nickname him Santa Claus.

Samuel lives in a converted atelier along with his daughter, Audrey Claus, whom he plans to train as his successor. Audrey is generally supportive of her father's cause, though she does occasionally veer from his strict moral pronuncements. One day, she hears of a certain finishing school which might assist her charitable aims, and disobeys her father to pursue it.

About The Authors

The Annals of Rosalia is written, drawn, edited, and published independently by a circle of multiple authors. For their protection, their identity has been kept secret from the public. The first book in the series, Maiden's Consent, has already been completed; and is currently in the editing process. New chapters will be posted on a monthly basis as that editing work continues.
